Who We Are...

Bethel is an Independent Evangelical Church formed in 1934 after tent meetings conducted by Rev. Edward Jeffreys in a tent in Lister Drive.

We are INDEPENDENT, in that we do not belong to a denomination but we are affiliated to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches , a grouping of over 450 churches nation-wide. However we are not a cult or a sect, and we stand on the historic truths of Christianity.

We are EVANGELICAL, in that we take the Bible, God's Word, as our final and supreme authority. Everything we believe and teach can be found in the Bible.

We are a CHURCH, which is not the building, but people - men, women and children - from all walks of life, who have discovered a life changing relationship with God through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.

Whether you are young or old, single or married, working or unemployed - you can be certain of a warm welcome from the people at Bethel, and a message that can radically alter your life.

What We Believe...

God is the creator and Sustainer of all life and has through creation and conscience, given us all an awareness of His existence.

Mankind is the crown of God's creation, intended for friendship with Him, but separated from Him because of our rebellion and sin.

The Bible is God's totally reliable explanation of who we are, why the world is as it is, and how we might come to know what life is really all about.

Jesus Christ is God's only Son who came to show us exactly what God is like. In His death on the cross He bore the punishment that we deserved for our sin, and His bodily resurrection to life declared God's acceptance of His sacrifice - once for all.

The Future is neither oblivion or hopeless but a personal encounter with the Living God in a final court of justice, in which knowing Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord is the only hope of Heaven.

What We Do...

meaningful worship when the Bible is explained in a way that is relevant for today. A crèche is provided in the morning.
There is a midweek meeting for prayer and Bible study.

For children - There is a Sunday School, a "Searchers" group, and the uniformed organisations (Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade) are very popular and include badgework, games and Bible teaching.
For toddlers - Our Parent and Toddler groups are always bursting at the seams.

For ladies - There is a very friendly afternoon meeting each week with a helpful message and a cup of tea. There is also an interesting monthly evening meeting.
